Concept Quiz
Titration & The Equivalence Point
Titration is an analytical technique used to determine the unknown concentration of an analyte (in the flask) by slowly adding a standard titrant (from the burette) until the reaction is perfectly neutralized.
At Equivalence Point:
$Moles_{acid} = Moles_{base}$
$M_A V_A = M_B V_B$
$Moles_{acid} = Moles_{base}$
$M_A V_A = M_B V_B$
The Equivalence Point is the exact mathematical point of neutralization. The Endpoint is the point where the chemical indicator visually changes color. A good indicator changes color at a pH very close to the equivalence point.
