Equilibrium & Le Chatelier's Principle
Chemical equilibrium is dynamic: the forward and reverse reactions never stop, but their rates become exactly equal ($Rate_f = Rate_r$). The ratio of product to reactant concentrations at this point is the Equilibrium Constant ($K_c$).
$$A \rightleftharpoons B \quad \text{(Endothermic)}$$
$$K_c = \frac{[B]}{[A]} = \frac{k_f}{k_r}$$
Le Chatelier's Principle:
If a stress is applied (changing concentration or temperature), the system shifts to counteract it. The instantaneous ratio is the Reaction Quotient ($Q_c$).
• If $Q < K$: Shift Right ($\rightarrow$)
• If $Q > K$: Shift Left ($\leftarrow$)
