Oxygen Family Reactions & Chalcogen Trends for chemca.in
Sulfur Allotropes
Rhombic (α-S) is stable at room temperature. It transforms to Monoclinic (β-S) above 369 K (Transition Temperature).
Both contain S8 rings, but the arrangement of rings differs.
Oxidizing Properties
Ozone: Second most powerful oxidant after Fluorine. Oxidizes PbS to PbSO4.
H₂SO₄: Hot, conc. H₂SO₄ is a moderately strong oxidizing agent (Intermediate between HNO₃ and H₃PO₄).
